COMPANY TIMELINE

1990

  • Eidos formed as a video compression R&D company. This business still forms the core of the Eidos Technologies entity.

July 1994

  • Charles Cornwall joins the company as Chairman.

Oct 1995

  • Eidos moves into the entertainment software market with the acquisition of Domark and obtains a full listing on the London Stock Exchange. Charles Cornwall appointed as CEO, Ian Livingstone as Chairman.

Oct 1995

  • Championship Manager 2 is released

Apr 1996

  • Eidos strengthens its position in the industry with acquisition of CentreGold plc, which includes US Gold, Core Design (developer of Tomb Raider) and CentreSoft. Offices in US, France and Germany obtained as part of the acquisition. The distribution arm CentreSoft is sold to a management buyout as part of the strategy of on developing and publishing.

  • Oscar winner, Angelina Jolie, to star as Lara Croft in the live action film "Tomb Raider" with Simon West directing for Paramount Pictures. The film began principal photography in Summer 2000 at Pinewood Studios

  • Eidos secures worldwide rights to publish PlayStation and PC versions of a game based on the hit film, "Chicken Run." The game is being licensed from and developed by Blitz Games.

  • Eidos signs a deal with Celador Productions to publish "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?" in the UK on the PC, PlayStation and Dreamcast formats.

  • Eidos signs an agreement with Sports Interactive to publish three more titles in the record selling and award winning Championship Manager series. Championship Manager 4 will be a multi-format release with plans for the expansion of the online gaming facility for the PC version.

  • Eidos announces that Warren Spector will lead the development from the Ion Storm studios of further iterations of the Thief franchise for PC and PlayStation 2.

  • Eidos announces that it has terminated takeover discussions with an unnamed third party. The Board gave the approach serious consideration, but concluded that the terms discussed did not represent fair value for shareholders.

  • Who Wants To Be A Millionaire sets UK Chart History in only its second week of release. The game becomes the first ever title to top the All Format, PlayStation, PC and Dreamcast charts in the same week.

  • Eidos announces its first Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) game titled "Gangsters." The game is being developed by nGame based in Cambridge, England.

  • Two Eidos games win honours at the BAFTA Interactive Entertainment Awards 2000. PC Game of the Year was won by Deus Ex, which was developed by Ion Storm. Sports Game of the Year was won by Sydney 2000, which was developed by Attention To Detail.
